CreateSpace is a print on demand system that makes it simple to distribute your books, music, and video through Internet retail outlets, your own website, and other bookstores, retailers, libraries, and academic institutions.
CreateSpace provides the writer with the opportunities to access various tools, high quality printing, as well as the provisions of opportunities for the editing of a book. The platform gives the author the chance to have an actual following of readers. Publishing on CreateSpace requires the writer to follow specific steps:
- Upload your File
Upload a Word .doc, or a PDF file and createspace automatically converts it to a print-ready format. Note: The PDF document you use will need to be formatted for whatever size you choose for the actual book. If your book is in 8×10 then the PDF must also be in formatted in 8X10. There are a lot of factors to consider when you format your document, so make sure you address them. If you aren’t comfortable with doing the formatting yourself, then you may have to pay someone to do it for you.
Book Cover – This can either be an image you provide, or you can use their cover creator, which will generate a generic cover for you. The problem with their creator is that their options are limited, so there is a good chance somebody else will end up with a cover very similar to yours. You may want to hire someone to create a cover image for you, but that is entirely up to you.
Bar Code – You need not purchase a bar code. CreateSpace requires that you leave a blank spot on your cover. They will print the bar code there. They have a preferred spot, but you a bit of leeway about where you put the blank spot.
- Preview your Book
CreateSpace requires that you proof your book. You may choose to do this entirely through their online proofing tool, in which case there are no upfront costs for you. Your uploaded file is displayed online in a virtual version of your printed book so you can preview end-to-end, allowing you to quickly spot problems with your formatting. Alternatively you purchase a printed proof copy, they charge their usual printing costs plus shipping costs for the printed proof.
- Note: The printing fee is entirely based on page count. The number of pages is an important element during the design of the book or novel cover. The spine of the cover should be dependent on the number of pages that a book is likely to have. This is mainly aimed at improving the aesthetic value of the book.
- Automated Print Check
Your uploaded file is scanned for common manuscript issues that prevent your book from being ready to print. createspace visually highlights these issues so it’s easy to update them in your file.
All Trim Sizes Supported – Your file doesn’t have to be formatted to match your trim size (although, we recommend it). Interior Reviewer’s built-in template and scaling tools can auto-fix your file to match your book’s trim size
